Well I think I have found a way to keep those that want and dont want separate boards happy. Yes there is still the general scale train board, but for those that would like scale boards, there are subboards. That way those that dont care can post where ever. Those that do care dont have to b**** about the only option that they have being in their opinion the wrong one.

Even though I have my model railroad boards separated out as scale specific, I have a 'Layout Advice' board for all scales. The only thing I ask my members posting there is that they put the scale at the top of the post so the reader knows they may have to scale up or down to get it to work on their layout.

It could go either way on this one I guess, but I just don't like to go into a thread on a whim and discover some great advice and pics. I don't appreciate the MR site with the N-scale topic and other group specific topics that seem a bit cliquish. I don't think the members are hiding on purpose but they need to put the good info in the proper topic.

It's supposed to show how much people like you. It is really basically a revenge feature though.

There are a few things I think can be done to really improve the number of members joining and the posts being made. These are just my thoughts so you can take them into account or not. It's up to you. First of all, is this a forum on model railroading or prototype trains? It's hard to tell because there is a HUGE part of this forum on specific railroads. It's great that there's a section on them, but does it really have to be so frickin' huge? I think it would be alot better to have them all condensed into one or two catagories. If anyone has information on this they can always start a subgroup in that catagory. I go to alot of other forums and for some reason this one is formatted differently than the others. Not saying there is anything wrong with that, but isn't it better to go with what works? of all the forums I visit, this one is the smallest. It could be because it's still fairly new, I don't know. I understand it takes alot of work and time to get a forum up and running. But the other forums are all formatted roughly the same way and they all have ALOT of members. I visit one that has over 18,000 members. You'ld think that'll be the busiest. It's not. Another one has just a few thousand and it's got new members joining everyday and has new topics being posted faster than you can read them. Why? Formatting. They don't have a format like this one. They have everything broken down into specific scale catagories, they cover EVERY scale, they have a catagory on scratchbuilding/kitbashing, weathering, large scale, narrow guage...you name it. It is aimed at the modeler....not the prototype. Another thing the bigger forums do that I noticed doesn't get done here is the moderators INCOURAGE photos being posted. This gets others to "voice" their oppinion and gets them reved up to get their own modeling done or started. This isn't a bad forum. Just needs a bit of tweeking. One more thing that this forum needs. Links. All the biggest forums have members posting links to sites that help the modeler. Now, having said all that, I'll be the first to put my words into action. I'll post some pics (as soon as I find out how to) and post some links to help out the modeler. Because you guys are on the topic of this "karma" thing...is it really needed? I mean, can we survive without it? I'm sure if we post topics that HELP each other out that'll pretty much insure that we like each other. These are just my thoughts. I hope you guys find at least SOMETHING here useful.
