That's why they decided to devolp the challenger same number of driving wheels, but it was articulated and had an extra cylinder. Exactly. Greater flexibility when it came to train assignments as well. Paul

When UP sent the 9000 to Pomona CA for display,the crew really sweated it going around the sharp curves on Cajon.Trains magazine,in the mid 50s had a photo section of the loco going around the curves at Summit.It was really cool.
