I like the railroad. I like the paint scheme and their variety of locomotives. Its a regional line in Montana and they have about 900 or so miles. They also like bringing BNSF trains over Mullens pass. They even have the SD70ACes with the same paint. Very cool. I don't have a picture of the MRL ACes but I have a picture of MSTS SD70ACes in the MRL paint. Neat little railroad in Big Sky Country!!

MRL is a neat RR. One thing I liked was the uniuque power- such as F45s, SD45s, SD35s, and the GP9s, specifically the ex-CGW GP9 (cant think of the # right now). Also, I&M Rail link had the EXACT same scheme, but it had mostly Sd40(-2)s

It was a midwestern regional owned by the same corporation that owns MRL (As well as SRY and other transportation companies other than railroads) and was bought out by someone a few years back. I think it was ICE, but don't quote me on that. I'm quite a fan of MRL, I fanned them last summer. Got a ton of shots of a 16K ton coal train going over Mullan with 6 SD60s on the point and 2/3 SD70ACes as helpers midtrain and on the rear. Also managed to not see a single bloody SD45. Heard a few from my hotel in Missoula, though. Unmistakeable, that 20 cylinder sound.

Yes Ceder American Rail Holdings bought that I & M Rail link because they were falling into bankruptcy. The CARH owns DM&E and ICE. The MRL ordered 16 SD70ACes to replace the aging fleet of SD45s. So long SD45!! The SD70ACes were MRLs first order of new locos in 15 or more years!!

Actually the SD70ACes are the first new locos MRL has ever owned/ordered. All of their other locos came second hand.

Well that is good that they can afford to buy the best of the best.

Not many regionals can do that.
IMRL was bought out by IC&E a few years ago (I think '02 or '03). Also, the name stands for Iowa & Minnesota Rail link.
