. . . that would be me.
Up until recently, I was in the early stages of a mid-50s era free-lanced layout based upon a fictional UP subsidiary (similar to the Los Angeles & Salt Lake), which would have allowed me to mix in my real loves: both Southern Pacific and Santa Fe.
Fate intervened, however, and I'm now having to rethink the concept into an urban switching layout for the time being. So the UP does a vanishing act. The era remains the same, however.
Glad to be here, by the way.

Hey, welcome to the scene!
I'm an N scaler too. There are a few of us here, though we always welcome more!
Sounds like you have a good idea of what you're after.
You could model an interchange. That way you get to model all the roads you want and it can be incorporated into the larger layout later.
Anyways, Welcome!

That interchange is definitely in the plan (such plans as I can be said to have). I'm looking at this whole revised layout thing as a good opportunity to clarify a lot of things ahead of time -- for once -- instead of my usual retrospect approach. Regards, Paul

I also model in N scale. I have an out and back switching layout set in Iowa in 1976. It's been fine until recently when I added a commuter train to the mix. My N scale workers are threatening to go on strike because I've totally messed up their schedules. LOL

Sounds like chaos. Mine would kill for a more complex schedule.
