The UP Whittier branch bridge over Whittier Blvd. (at 5 Points)was partially torn out recently. This bridge had the Salt Lake Route logo, with arrowhead, on an abutment. This was also torn out. This line is being turned into a biking/hiking trail.Part of this bridge, the city claimed, was not earthquake safe. The remainder of this bridge including the large truss span over Whittier Blvd.will remain. This is not the first time a piece of history has been lost in Whittier. The easiest way to get a building torn down in Whittier is to have it declared a historic site. Works every time!

Too bad. I'm afraid that happens too often all over the place.
I ride my bike over an old branch line turned trail on a regular basis. You can tell it was a rail line because the ballast is still on the side of the trail.

That is one thing I love about Texas, WE GIVE A DAMN ABOUT OUR HISTORY AND HERITAGE.
