R/C operations belong in the yards ONLY.(if even then). NEVER,NEVER,NEVER on the road!

Give me a crewed train any day of the week. The thought of a moving train with nobody on board scares the he** out of me.

It's come to my attention that KCS is now running crewless trains. It started on the Meridian speed way. These trains are tracked by normal GPS and CTC systems but there is not an operator on board any of these trains. A system much like DCC is being used through the track and signals sent though the rail's are what control the trains. Now they have to remove all grade crossing's and either make them go over or under the track sense no one is there to control the train therefore no accidents can happen except out of stupidity of playing on the tracks. Does anyone else have any information on this? Sorry but this just isn't so! I live along the KCS Meridian Speedway and let me assure you EVERY train has both a conductor and engineer in the cab. Other than remote control switching NO railroad in the US runs crewless trains. Also the KCS has been hiring T&E crews regularly for years. If you doubt this just check the weekly news posted on the KCS website. You can browse back through the archives and find the names, location and occupation of each new hire (along with promotions and retirements) for the last three years. Where ever you picked up the info about the KCS running crewless trains it's dead wrong. Someone asked about the length of the Meridian Speedway. It is 313 miles long and stretches from Shreveport to Meridian. It is 70% owned by the KCS and 30% owned by the NS and together with the KCS Greenville sub running west from Shreveport to Alliance (Dallas), TX it forms a bridge route between the NS and the BNSF and hosts a number of transcon intermodal and manifest trains. From what I understand, it's what the railroads are coming to. Sometime in the future, the trains in your neck of the woods won't have a soul on board. Everything will be controlled by somebody watching a monitor and seeing what's on the track ahead on a closed-circuit satellite hookup. In the words of John Wayne "That'll be the day!"
