The 6,000 HP SD90 was supposed to come out but the engines had over-heating probs so they came out with the 4300 HP version so EMD could fill the orders. When the 6000 HP unit came out not many railroads wanted it by then.

Interesting. So most of what you see are the lower horse-power units. Just for comparison purposes, you wouldn't happen to know the horse-power of a SD70Ace?

SD70ACe is a 4300 hp primate... or give or take a few HP.
