...they CAN and DO leak. I have a ruined Maglite flashlight as proof of that. If you have Alkaline batteries in any of your rolling stock, locos, or control systems, I suggest you remove them before sending them into storage. It would be a real bummer to unpack that stuff next Christmas and have a leak that ruined an expensive item.

That is the biggest reason that I love Lionel, NO BATTERIES NEEDED! Got some old Lionel back with the parents, was Grandpas, that uses batteries...so yes, Lionel does you batteries. The Sante Fe F3s, probably from the original run.

I was more refering to the newer "traditional" equipment. That stuff is all electric.

I think some of the older locomotives used batteries to trip a relay or something.
