The author, Robert Louis Stevenson, said that the journey was more exciting and satisfying than the arrival at the destination.
But do you ever really finish your building?
Once you get operational you always find little tweaks that can be improved or added.
So while the initial stage is all building and the excitement is in the anticipation of "Will it all work the way I planned?" the operational stage is rewarding at a different level, and the continual modification of your layout adds to the pleasure.
Really, I think we're all part builder/part operator !

Building is nice, and it's what I spend most of time at. However the real joy of the hobby comes from putting what's your've built to the test and gettin' some trains rolling. It's like all the work and sweat finally reall means something. Buildings and scenery aren't nearly as nice on thier own as when you getting some trains to bring it to life.

A layout is like a movie set, the trains are the actors, the track is the "script", everthing else is stage props.

I just can not just run my train! I start out doing that but I fined myself making changes adding too, or removing something. I just can not help myself. I think it's just all part of th fun.
