At a recent train show Atlas was sporting a new code 65 track selection that is under development for production. Details are slim, but so far we know a few things. The new track will have an attached roadbed, similar to Kato's Unitrack. Tie spacing will be to North American prototype. Curve radii to be offered initially will be 11" and 12.5" fixed radius to begin with, and more available later. Turnouts are based on curve radius. According to Cory Rothlisberger, Product Development, Atlas Model R.R. Co., The turnouts will have an under roadbed control, similar to the Kato turnouts. They will be offered as remote and manual. I am willing to do more prototypical turnouts in the future with this new track line (hopefully by late '08), we just need to see how the sales go with this first batch. More curves are definitely in the plans, along with a conversion track of some sort (still need to figure out how we want to do it). A R&D test shot is shown here:

It'll be a while before it hits the market yet. Thats just a test shot. On the final product the ties will be painted.

OK.........so why is the track painted the same color as the roadbed? It also seems that we are getting closer and closer to the day of quick setups for layouts and RTR rolling stock. I guess this is being driven by not enough time available to really do the modeling.

That looks good but I'll stick with cork and flex track.

I'm using Kato Unitrak for my staging yard (hidden), but anything seen gets Atlas code 55 or Micro Engineering track.
