I used to drive dirt track stock car in Iowa during the seventies. When I started out we were running cars that were ten years old or older, by the time I quit, we were running new cars. That's right, we were running brand new Camaros. Big money had already taken over, and with it came rules. I miss the good old days of going out on a half mile dirt track oval and having fun. In the early years, by the time officials ever realized that there was a problem, we'd taken care of it. One guy had a black eye the other a bloody nose, and both were sitting around with a cold 12 ounce can in their hand and were laughing about it. I went to a race shortly before moving up here, and there was a dissagreement between a couple of drivers, which resulted in an inquiry and it was investigated, and a bunch of other nonsence. Unfortunately it's not just NASCAR that's getting rule crazy, even the dirt trackers are having to deal with idiot officials.

I tried that pavement stuff one time. It would have been nice if somebody had told me that you don't do broadsides on pavement. Wow was my car owner ticked with me.

Eric do you still race during the winter months? In Iowa we only raced April-September. There was such a difference between the excitement at the becinning of the year, and putting everything away at the end. I do hope that someday you get the chance to drive a dirt track stockcar. There are no words to describe the feeling as you drive hard into a corner and feel the rear of the car slides out and the left front wheel lifts off of the track.
