A question for all the car guys out there.........
I see that the new Challengers are due to hit the showroom floors soon. Ebay is already pre-selling them. The prices are staggering though! 40-50 thousnad dollars for a new R/T!!!! I thought these were supposed to be cometition for the Mustang? You know, a base model for around 20k and nicely equipped for 25-27k. A fire breathing monster for around 30-35k.
I priced a brand new Roush Mustang convertable last week (looking for a new toy ya know! The Roush Limited Edition Roadster definately qualifies!) at 35k, and that had a 6 speed tranny, almost 500hp, special paint, all leather interior, every bell and whistle known to man, all for 2/3 the price of the Challenger. I have to tell ya, it was hard to walk away from! I still may go back!
So my real question is, have any of you heard what the pricing structure is supposed to look like once the initial rush settles down on the new Challenger? I mean, I could hold off for a little bit if the price comes down to the mearly rediculous. I like the new Challenger a lot and I'd like to be able to at least concider it.
I've owned all kinds of muscle cars over the years, including Challengers, Mustangs and tons of others. My first car was a '66 Mustang. It's nice to see interest in these cars coming back (new Challengers, Camaros, and fresh redesigns on the Stang), and I'm thinking that maybe the time is right for the modern muscle car to really start coming into the limelight. If only gas prices would cooperate! I will say, these new muscle cars aren't that bad on gas if you keep your foot off the loud pedal though. At least not compared to some of the yesteryear offerings. I remember my old 'Cuda that got 4mpg! It'd pass anything but a gas station!
