Well Cowboy Action Shooting isn't workin out this year! I have moved down from the 27th best in the state to the 49th! That is what two misses and a malfunction can do to a fella! In CAS it all about time. All the runs are timed and who ever gets the best time average wins a course. Eh, this just means more time at the range and fine tuning my trusty sixguns.
IDPA shooting has been good to me this year! I have moved up from 12th to 8th, in my region. I still hold my 37th overall state wide rating. I took my Kimbers to the local gunsmith in Goliad to get them fine tuned (new springs, refinishing, a new barrel and bushing, and a better beavertail) for the new season. I tried them out at the range after I got back and man do these babies shoot.

I have always wanted to try that kind of shooting, but never have. Me I'm getting ready to start shooting my AR-15, I got some ammo reloaded over the winter. I probally don't do very well compared to my competition, but I am also shooting against retired Marines who could hit the bullseye at 600 yards in their sleep.

What's wrong with a regular hunting rifle?

NO WHERE NEAR AS ACCURATE!!!! On some target models the barrel and reciever are one solid piece. Helps with accuracy. The less the parts rattle round when the bullet is in the barrel, the more accurate a gun is. Regular hunting arms are perty accurate out of the box, but they aint got nothin on some of the fine target arms on the market.

300 yards is a gimme shot in this spot. Most shots are at 500-1000 yards.

Hmm, never tried a shot at more than 600 yards. But I've seen people do mighty well at that range with just a standard AR-15. Can you use a scope, and how big are the targets?
What you need to get is that rifle from Quigely Down Under.

Yeah you can use a scope. Regarding the Quigly Rolling Block, I aint a very big fan of 45-70s or any odd load like that. Unless you have a gun store, not a store that sells guns, but a gun only dealer, ammo is hard as hell to find.

Well I went shooting yesterday with my AR-15 with match trigger (no scope either). It was 200 yard rapid fire, which is always a lot of fun. You shoot two sighters and then 3 strings of ten rounds. You only get one minute to get off the 10 rounds so you really have to pace the shooting. Breath in-Breathe out Fire.
Unfortunately I forgot the reset the sights from the last 600 yard shoot where the wind of was blowing a lot. So I wasted my two sighter shots. The first sting of fire I was just hoping I had got the sights back where they belonged. It took another small adjustment to get on target.

Yesterday was much better at 300 yard rapid fire. I did better than the guy I was pulling targets for. On my last string of fire I only had one shot didn't hit the black, it escaped out into the seven ring.

You know in cowboy action shooting bullets like that are called stealth bullets.
