Well I went up to the local Wal-Mart and I purchased a new CO2 pistol. It came in a kit with three cartidges full of CO2 two 8 shot moon clips, a pair of shooting goggles (which I never will use) and 250 flat nosed pellets.
Model summary
This is a relatively new gun that has an all new design. It is also part of the company's "make over" of their pistol line. This gun is to Crosman as the Caliber is to Dodge. The Model 1088 is the replacement for the Model 1008. This was a gun similar to the Model 1088 in fuction, but not form. The 1008 looked like a 1911, the 1088 looks like a Ruger Semi-Auto.
Performance
Now this gun was not bad for a cheap $50 gun. It however does not have adjustable sights. It doses shoot just below point of aim though. It has a rifled barrel that makes it extremely accurate. I got 1/4 to 1/2 inch groups with it at 3 yards (I plan to test it at further distances at a later date). It shoots an 8 shot rotary clip (a moon clip) and is a double action pistol (no cocking of the hammer required) . It can also be shot single action style (cockin the hammer tween shots). I prefer the latter of the two!
Also this gun does have some bite to it and it does recoil slightly when it has a fresh cartridge.
Form and function
There is a tactical accessory rail! That means if you like laser aimers (i.e.- are too lazy to aim with sights) you can mount one no problem. The same can be said of you like tactical lights for night time shooting (like me!). I also give this pistol high marks in handling too. The grip is at an (almost) perfect angle so that when you bring it up from a holster you have automatic sight aquisition. Also if there are any fans of Strum, Ruger, & Co. on the forum, you will be pleased to know that this gun bears a nearly uncanny resemblance to the Ruger P45 series pistols!
All in all a damn good air gun from a damn good air gun company. If you are lookin for a budget air pistol that is user friendly for any pests around the house (or in the garden) or just want one for fun. Head on to the local Wal-Mart and pick up a Crosman Mode 1088. You will love it!
