I tried out an idea I had . I used a scrap piece of asphalt shingle cut it to size with a craft knife. I placed it on the layout with the smooth side up. It didn't look haft bad. You can get scrap shingles from new home sites if you ask. They are happy to get rid of them. I am going give them a try for roads and streets. Hey the price is right and they don't end up in a land fill. Good for us and good for the Earth. Well it didn't work as well as I had hoped ! But rolled roofing worked much better. For one thing it's thiner easier to cut and use. It comes wider size, you can cut it into curves or what aver shape you would like. The backside looks more like a tared street or parking lot. I have not tried to paint a white lines on it, but maybe a white tape would work.
