Lets see, the citizens of the US sueing the government. That's a helluva picture. Did you know this? Before sueing the government, you must first get their permission. Isn't that cheeky? Funny you have to ask permission to sue the government but you don't have to when you sue a private citizen.? WHAT THE FREAKING FREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I somewhat understand their position on this, but I think that if they were doing their jobs right then it wouldn't be much of an issue. Limit the access of people to the yard areas to people who are "known". If you want to railfan a yard then you have to register and agree to be investigated to the point of assertaining whether you are a potential threat or not, then allowed to view the yard from a couple of contained areas. I'd be happy to let them check me out a bit if I could be welcome there.
As to the open rails....I don't know what you could do there.

I agree to that but only one condition needs to be changed is the viewing of the railyard to certain areas.... I would like to view all parts of the yard like I do now and not 2 or 3 places. The yard I look at they haven't asked me and my dad to leave yet but have asked my grandma and me to not go down the road but I believe that was due to an accident and they didn't want people going down the road.

Maybe the railfans should unite to form a second NRA, the National Railfan Association. LOL

Ya but why take away our freedom. can you put a price on someones head? so what if you lose some railfanning privledges, at least everyone is alive So your saying by me not taking photos of something that anyone can go look at (how else would I get the photos), and then sharing the photos, I am endangering people. Even though the terrorist can go view the trains themselves. What about a book of railroad photos, a wealth of info for the terrorist. We must out-law books with railroad photos. What if the terrorist go look at the trains themselves! I propose we put all trains underground... The premise is total hogwash. The people who decide who is on railroad property is the railroad!

Also the reporter refers to 'trainspotters', isn't that an insulting term the Biritish use for geeks that watch trains.

What I meant by that, and maybe I didn't explain it well, was that there might be a couple of designated "safe zone" like places that we could railfan from. We might be able to see the whole yard from there, but we'd be out of harms way and not a safety concern for the crews.

Also the reporter refers to 'trainspotters', isn't that an insulting term the Biritish use for geeks that watch trains. Indeed, the other week someone on another forum that I was on tried calling me that. I'm fairly well respected on that forum, so he didn't get very far before being flamed by a ton of people. Mwahaha. alex, I can't believe that you're buying into this load of tripe. Even if you aren't allowed to do something, it's the innocent people that lose out the most. So you lose your railfanning privaleges. Well, you lose your favorite hobby. That's a bit of a big deal, no? Okay, so now you're not allowed to go railfanning. You're also not allowed to rob a store, or set off a bomb, or murder someone. They all still happen, and in the railfanning case, only for the people that it will have the worst consequences for. Funny how some losses of liberty don't protect us to the extent where they're worth it, eh?

Well if they make railfanning illeagal then i guess ill be going to jail every weekend No,I still think we should do what Eric said. We should form an NRA for Railfans and tell Homeland In-security to go screw itself and leave us Railfans alone. This will realy piss you off. blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2007/02/security_author.html
