If I remember correctly, the U33Cs were scrapped on May 14, 1985, and the U30Bs about a month before that.

Yep. In fact, that's where a good portion of the IC SD40-2 fleet came from. I think something like 130(?) were bought from BN. Some had their dynamic brakes removed, while others were left w/ DB.

Because they were too cheap to maintain all those DB's, considering that much of the IC was flat terrain. I think about half were left w/ DB, then the other half it was removed. I don't remember which ones were rebuilt first.

I cant remember either but alot of their engines didnt have DB's. One thing I find interesting is the fact that the IC crews really didnt like the new SD70's. I suspect the reason is that the crews hadnt ran anything newer that a SD40-2.

By the time the SD70 came out, the SD40 and SD40-2 were long in the tooth.
