I've got a BN SD70MAC, Athearn Genesis, in the executive paint scheme, though it isn't very cooperative. I'm finding Athearn slightly annoying. But their AC44CW's are the worst. Rich what are you using for curves? If you use 18" your track has to be 100% perfect or an AC4400 will derail. Runs much better on 22" curves. Yes, I'm using 18", I'll try to see if I can switch that to 22".

I can tell you all about running Athearn 3 axle units on 18" radius curves. I have no problems with it. I run Athearn 6 axle units on 18" radius all the time with no problems. The only loco that gave me any problems is a P2K.

The first thing I do when I get an Athearn loco, new or used, is replace the contact bar with flexable wire leads, which I solder in place. Makes for much better operation. As to running on 18" radius curves, I have no problems, even with flex track, Atlas, Peco code 100. Check the gauge on curves.

I personally was never much for DCC.
