I know for a fact that there are at least three espee fans on this forum, including myself.

I have actually never seen a unit with this paint sceme on the prototype. That won't keep me from running them though. I am an SP fan because I grew up for some of my childhood in Lancaster Ca. and was able to see many very long trains run through at a high rate of speed. At 12 years of age I moved to Fontana and watched the Colton yard workings. We also went through Cajon pass often and could see 7 units working up the grade.

You've never seen a real SP black widow? I've only seen about a dozen over the last 40+ years.

I too have grown up with the Southern Pacific. In my hometown, Cuero, the railline through town is a former SP line. Now it is UP, but I see more KCS than anything else, ugly grey blobs.

From what I hear, that's about to change. Rumor has it that KCS is going back to the black, red and yellow of the flying crow.

I might hold it in higher regard if it wasn't just big ugly grey blob. Now then, back to the SP.

I am a lifelong SP fan.I have seen black widow painted locos.Once on a family vacation, near Portland,I saw a freight pulled by 5 SD9s. The first two were black widow units. At the time,I was swimming in the hotel pool, and my camera was in my room!
